When Shouldn’t You Use Power Flush Services for Central Heating?

Power flushing your central heating system is necessary, but there are some instances where this procedure is not applicable. It is needed the moment you discovered a build-up of calcium and oxide sludge in your central heating system. The formation of these deposits in your system means there might be an underlying issue. This problem allows the air to get inside your CH system and this causes the heat exchangers and radiators to corrode.

It leaves debris and rust at the bottom of your radiators that corrodes down to the oxide sludge. It results to problems like clogged waterways, heat exchangers, and pipework. The blockages slow down heat transfer that triggers valve, pipe & heating switch server damage. In some instances, it leads to boiler damage and replacement.

Power flushing does not need to be carried out on a regular basis. You need to find out when it should be carried out and how often you need to power flush your central heating system.

The following are instances where power flushing is not advisable:

If Your Radiator is New

Flushing a new radiator is not actually necessary. It will never “break in” the new radiator or even the system. Power flushing is needed and applicable to a new radiator when you notice some cold spots. It means your system has nasty sludge or corrosion inside and that build-up moved down to the radiator. If this is the case, you need to flush your central heating system.

If Your Radiator is Below Four Years Old

If your radiator is below four years of use, power flushing it is not applicable. If there is nothing else aside from minor steel radiators and you’re from a region that has hard water, the corrosion might be at its normal rate only. But when the bottoms of your 4-year old radiators are cold, the boiler might be the cause of the issue. Or, it could mean your plumbing requires replacement.

If Your Radiator is Five Years Old or More

Flushing your system might be suitable this time. Power flushing is important to keep your central heating system in good shape. When you want your unit to stay in good condition, power flush it every five or six years. That will be a nice idea, but you can also power flush your radiators every eight to ten years. The length of years between every power flush will always depend on the durability and quality of those materials used in making your central heating system.

Knowing when you should not power flush your CH system requires you to consider some factors.

These factors are:

1. The age of your radiators or the system

2. The kind of your system’s boiler

3. The hardness of the water

Many engineers recommend power flushing a central heating system every five to six years. Don’t power flush your system when you do not see any signs like sludge and corrosion. It is so easy to tell. Just check the water. If it is not clear and clean, just power flush it.
